The "pup" in the comics below is Florence a Bowman's Wolf (uplifted wolf species). She's as intelligent as a human.

(after thursday the above will get the wrong strip, try http://freefall.purrsia.com/ff3100/fc03021.htm)

I agree with Chris's dad. Especially given that it's a mobility device *with communications*. Killing the comms when there's a fault in the drive system is an *insanely* stupid decision.

What stupid design decisions have *you* had to deal with?

I got back out to pick up pears, so we cleaned half a bucket of them, and I put the bits in a crockpot to cook into pie filling.  :D

“Okay,” Heron patted the air lightly. “That's not what I was insinuating.”

“Insi-- what?” Shiv threw his hands up, and the momentum pulled him to his feet, balancing lightly on his toes before beginning to pace between the front door and the short wall that held both his bedroom door and the bathroom door. The young man paced, loping strides pulling him nearly nose to nose with the wall before he reversed direction to lunge toward the opposite wall.

“In-sin-u-ate,” Heron repeated blandly, though he was careful to pronounce each syllable. “it's hinting, but subtly, or jockeying for position or a favor. Like...” Long fingers curled as Heron snapped his middle finger away from his thumb. “Muuuum,” he mock-whined, “my legs hurt, and the back seat is squashed up against yours and Da's.” Another minuscule shrug followed as the faintly petulant expression faded away. “In that case, insinuating that sitting in the front passenger seat would be more comfortable.”

Today is warm, partly cloudy, and muggy.  We went out to the orchard and removed many many field weeds from under the pear tree.  It is a bumper year for pears, they are all over the ground already, with plenty left overhead.  If I have the energy, I'll go back out later and pick up a bucket of them to make pie filling.

a resounding success

Got in late last night (4am) from spending the weekend in southern Oregon, rehearsing with my new duo partner and coming up with a set list for our first concert, which we're aiming to have in mid-November. Anybody out there know of free or inexpensive small venues in the Portland area which might be receptive to hosting a live music concert on the evening of Thursday, Nov 16th? A library meeting room, school cafeteria, church fellowship hall, or such would be about the right size for the small audience I envision...

Here is an essay about a professor leaving academia

I went to U of I.  There were parts of it that I enjoyed, and the culture wasn't that bad.  But I can see parallels.  For me it was more a matter of looking at the way education was going, and deciding not to get involved in public education as a teacher.  It was obviously going down the tubes, and that was decades ago; it's infinitely worse now.  So too, many colleges.  :/  I couldn't stop it.  I could sure get the hell out of the way.

A few minutes later, Heron placed the three jars of honey on Shiv's kitchen counter. “So, there's French lavender flavor, red ginger flavor, and cinnamon flavor, and if you like one better than the other two, or hate them all, just let me know,” he offered, absently tucking his hair behind his ear. “I make five or six varieties at a time now, trying to get ahead of the next few months with my roommates, so making another batch is no problem at all.”

Shiv glided into the reception room, puzzling his brows together. “Heron? This isn't a day for Doctor G to visit.”

“I'm here to talk to you, and Da's visit's still planned,” Heron assured, his Irish accent slightly thicker. “So I thought I should introduce myself properly.”

“Good idea,” Dymin nodded in agreement, opening Boss White's door for the group. Heron fell into step behind Buttons, unsurprised when Shiv drew up the rear.

“Boss White, this is Heron Finn,” Dymin introduced. “He brought a basket of different flavored honey, and said that Shiv's part can be taken from any of them.”

Today has been warm and muggy.  We finally got some rain!  \o/  There will be more chances later in the week, too.

I had to go out and reposition flowerpots that fell over.  Again.  I moved some around and maybe that'll help hold them up.

Heron straightened his tie, then checked over the basket wadded with bold purple tissue paper in between the oval jars each bedecked with one of four colors of ribbon. The doorbell rang, making him sigh. “One second, Graceful.” Heron called as he gathered up the basket before greeting the teleporter and locking the front door of the now-empty house behind himself.

A moment later, the young woman chuckled. “You can open your eyes now,” she offered, not quite teasing. “Is that the same kind of honey you promised me?” Graceful asked.

I got this one of the Traveller RPG Mailing List.

A long time ago one of the odder (but fun) members designed the PMPP (Pelvic Mounted Plasma Projector). Which this villian's weapon resembles *way* too much.

I don't want to think about recoil effects...

Yay! It's spreading!

Got my flu shot the other day while I was at the pharmacy for something else.

You have to fill out a form with a bunch medical info and some personal.

I noticed one change from last year's form.

For Sex, it now had Male Female and Other.

Yay.
